These companion books are excellent resources
for home schooling teens or junior and senior
high religious education students. Each book
gives history regarding the time period covered
as well as "interviews" with Biblical
personalities. This technique enlivens Biblical
characters and makes them "real" to the reader.
These books are powerful tools to develop a love
of and understanding of Scripture.
For example, from an "interview" with King
Herod, Herod responds to the question, "Is Herod
a Hebrew name?" Herod's answer: It's a Greek
name that means 'belonging to the class of
heroes.' My father, Antipas, was an Idumean. He
came from the region south of Judea. My mother's
name was Kufra and she was an Arab."
In another example, Martha, the sister of Mary
and Lazarus, responds to the question, "Were you
the lady of the house?" Martha's words: Our
parents weren't with us anymore, and I was the
one wh had to take care of the house. There was
no conflict between Mary and me, if that's what
you want to know. I considered her more a
daughter than a sister. She needed protection
and tenderness. She confided her worries and
fears to me."
Each of the above examples and many, many more
flesh out the characters in the New
Testament. This books is an excellent
resource for all ages. Since we only have two
